The customers are 5G are now focusing on fast pace data speed along with a good bandwidth and even low latency. For new Internet of Things (IoT) devices and smartphones, it surely will give a better connectivity boost.
What is 5G?
5G is not just a quantum leap of wireless networking but also said to be an upgrade for the 4G LTE which we have been using on mobile devices on regular basis. However, the primary reason that makes 5G unique over the rest is its ability to let the smooth connection on different services and devices that can go beyond the smart home devices and evens mart cities. This kind of technology is said to be quite capable of even supporting millions of devices within a kilometer. If you compare it with 4G well, then 4G is limited only to100, 000 devices per kilometer.
It’s all about the Speed front:
If we focus on the speed front, the focus of 5G is to offer nearly 10Gbps on the devices that are handheld. It is quite high as compared to 10Mbps for the average downloading speed which is available on the 4G networking. However, one has to keep in mind that the speed can vary regularly while the network quality shall reach a certain device. 5G frequency spectrum is categorized into three types called:
- Mid-Band: Even if it does not deliver fast results but in terms of regular connectivity outdoors and indoors it is the best option to choose.
- Millimeter-Wave: It is said to be the quick spectrum however comes with a certain reach limit and can be quite a challenge to be used indoors
- Low-Band: It uses a frequency similar in range to that of 4G networks
So far most of the 5G adopting Telco’s have decided to choose the mid-band spectrum. It is also cost-effective as Telco’s don’t need additional cells to provide 5G networks, which is required in the case of millimeter waves.
Changes that telecom manufacturers shall bring:
There are also telecom manufactures like Nokia and Erricson who have been offering software upgrades to their technologies which are existing ones. This would make it easy for telcos to switch to 5G without any issues. This eventually means that telcos will not have to upgrade to the existing towers for delivering the network of the next generation. Earlier the operators of telecom were all set for deploying the networks of 5G to their existing 4G infrastructure with the help of non-standalone (NSA) mode. But now, it will be replaced by standalone (SA) mode which will of course rely on the 5G core network right after technology reaches the age of maturity.
The Launch of 5G in India:
In India, the government has to finalize the allocation of the 5G spectrum yet. However, if we count Telco’s like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, they have been conducting the initial tests of 5G. There are makers of telecom equipment like Ericson and Huawei as well who now testing different cases are. Currently, Ericsson along with the partnership of IIT Delhi is planning to establish a 5G Centre of Excellence so that testing and development for India-focused cases shall be done.
By end of 2002, India shall only be focusing on the spectrum allocation of 5G which shall be taking place. This shall let the equipment and Telco’s makers confute the trails at a full-fledged platform. Talking about the networks of 5G well, India already has a huge number of 4G networks which will not work on the 5G ones. This means to experience advanced technology, India will have to upgrade smartphones. Realme and OnePlus are some known smartphone makers who have even already announced their intention of getting their plan to get the 5G phone in India.
The use of 5G post its launch in India:
Ideally, 5G shall be primary used in three types of services of connection. This includes mission-critical communication, mobile broadband, and massive IoT. The ability of 5G shall be more to forward compatibility which shall offer the flexible support future services which are not known yet.
- Better mobile broadband
