Haryana (Rohtak) Gangrape: Justice Pending, Police Actions are on Hold

The shocking incidence, a terrible reminder of the Dec 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape and killing situation in New Delhi, came only days after the Supreme Court upheld the death phrase of four accused in the incident.  On 9 May, a 23 years old woman was cruelly gang-raped and murdered, The victim’s dead body was found in an empty plot in Haryana, the borders of Rohtak, 70 km from Delhi.

The Haryana police launched an investigation into the incident. The accused men are being interrogated,  the Police officers said that forensic experts have revealed that the sufferer was sexually attacked and her whole body was badly mutilated. Stray dogs had bitten off parts of the victim’s body.

Around a month back, the family had complained about a man who was harassing the woman but the police not successful to act, one of her relatives alleged.

The woman family had approached the Rohtak police with a complaint of harassment by the main accused (Sumit) but no act was taken,” The victim kin said the reporters in Sonipat.

An additional statement of family members has been recorded. Out of these six accused, five are relatives of  Sumit, main accused. The 6 may also be related in some way,” a police official said.

The woman went missing on 9 May, as per the complaint registered by her family.

The accused was putting pressure on her to marry him and used to threaten her. A week ago, he stopped the woman when she was returning home from work. When she ignored, he threatened and abused her. The woman slapped him and ran home,” said the mother in her statement to the police.

The woman had refused to marriage him, following which the main accused Sumit reached her home a week later with his friends. A heated discussion broke out which led to the woman slapping him. In revenge, the main accused along with his friends allegedly raped and killed her.
