Draupadi Murmu Education, Husband, Children and Birthplace: Born 20 June 1958, Droupadi Murmu, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, is the first woman belonging to the tribal community, the second woman to hold 15th & current President of India since 25 July 2022. On May 18, 2015, Murmu became also the first woman to serve as the ninth Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021. She served in a number of cabinet positions for the Government of Odisha between 2000 and 2004 as an Indian politician before being chosen as president.

Draupadi Murmu – Career

Murmu served as a junior assistant in the irrigation division of the Government of Odisha from 1979 to 1983. She then served as a teacher at the Sri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research Centre in Rairangpur from 1994 to 1997, where she taught Hindi, Odia, math, and geography.

Political career- Presidency (2022 to the Present)

In 1997, Droupadi Murmu was elected as the councillor of the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat as an independent candidate from a reserved seat for women. She then joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2013, she was chosen to serve on the BJP National Executive, and she served as district president till 2015.

After India gained independence in 1947, Draupadi Murmu is one of them is the youngest President ever elected. After Pratibha Patil, Murmu is the only other woman to hold the position of president of India.

Draupadi Murmu- Education

Murmu studied elementary education at the local primary school in Uparbeda Village. When she was five years old, she moved to Bhubaneswar to seek higher education. She attended Girl’s High School Unit 2 for her secondary schooling, and Rama Devi Women’s College in Bhubaneswar where she received her bachelor’s degree in arts.

Draupadi Murmu- Husband & Children

Droupadi Murmu was born to a Santali family in Uparbeda village, Rairangpur, Odisha. Her first name was Puti Tudu, but She changed it to Draupadi by convincing her school teacher. Droupadi’s father Biranchi Narayan Tudu was a farmer, and her grandfather both were leaders of Traditional Gram Panchayat.

She married banker Shyam Charan Murmu in 1980, and the couple had two sons and a daughter. Over the course of seven years, from 2009 to 2015, she lost her husband, two sons, mother, and brother. She is also a follower of the Brahma Kumari school of spiritual movement.
