The third phase of lockdown is going to end in India on 17th May 2020 but corona cases are on the rise in many states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan & Delhi. PM mode has conducted all states CM online meeting again on Monday 11th May regarding the current situation of coronavirus and lockdown.

On a very long virtual meeting session, PM Modi discussed many points with CM about their state’s current situation of COVID-19 spread. Unlike earlier PM-CM meets this time also only a few chief ministers backed the extension of lockdowns like Mamta Banarjee from West Bengal, Uddhav Thackeray from Maharashtra, and KCR from Telangana. Punjab CM Amarinder Singh wanted a lockdown extension with a carefully crafted exit strategy and Arvind Kejriwal from Delhi also want to open the capital in a planned way.

In the fifth virtual meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last 51 days, chief ministers of different states, explained COVID-19 situation in their states to PM Narendra Modi and asked about the financial package but couldn’t arrive at a conclusion on the extension of lockdown. But all of them portrayed a sense of unity towards states getting greater autonomy in deciding the future course of action, which includes a graded exit.

But as per the source to extend ongoing lockdown and to make it Lockdown 4.0, the ball is now in CMs’ court and all the CM’s has a choice. States who want to take a call regarding the lockdown extension in their state can do it and implement it independently to control the spread of coronavirus. Nitish Kumar from Bihar & Mamta Banerjee, along with Uddhav Thackeray shown strong interest to extend the lockdown till 31st May 2020.
