Finally Shivsena head and current chief minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray about to get an MLC seat in Maharashtra assembly to be on the CM chair constitutionally. To be on the chief minister chair he has to be a legislator, an MLC in a certain time period because he didn’t fight any election before becoming Mhasrsahta CM. From the past few weeks, the state was at a constitutional crisis but finally, he has found a way to maintain his CM candidature and to become MLC unopposed.
As per the “Article 164” of the Constitution, it allows a non-legislator to be on a post in the council of ministers, including the office of the chief minister for six months. To get this done Uddhav Thackeray’s deadline to end on 28 May 2020. A few days back Uddhav Thackeray also contacted PM Modi for the same and told that he needs his help to save his chair as CM of Maharashtra.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic and ongoing lockdown in India, everything is on hold and so Shivsena, NCP & Congress party aliance government asked the governor to extend this period. If Uddhav Thackeray wouldn’t able to get a legislator seat then he might have to resign as Chief Minister of Maharashtra but finally, his party has a good piece of news in this critical time because Uddhav Thackeray is all set to become MLC unopposed in upcoming days.
