Onam is considered as the New Year for Malayali Hindus or Onam is celebrated in the beginning of the Malayalam Calendar. It is the biggest festival of the state of Kerala, which continues for as long as ten days without any break. The celebrations of first Onam will start from September 04, this year. The festival showcases the rich culture and heritage of Kerala.
The rich shade of Malayalam culture is beautifully showcased during the festival season. Marking the time of summer harvest, people celebrate it by indulging in many activities such as decorating the ground in front of the houses using flowers, which marks the welcome ceremony of the mythical King. The snake boat races, Pulikali (tiger dances), Onathappan (worship), Kazhchakkula (plantain offerings), Onapottan (costumes), Atthachamayam (folk songs and dance), and Onathallu (martial arts).etc.
