Bhai Dooj Festival Significance, Puja Vidhi, Mantra, Bhai Tika: The festival of Bhai Dooj is popularly known as Bhaubeej, Bhai Tika, and Bhai Phonta is celebrated by Hindus on Shukla Paksha (second lunar day) in the Hindu calendar month of Kartika. Bhai Dooj is observed the second day after Diwali (or Tihar) in various states of India such as UP, Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Goa as well as in Nepal. This year Bhaiya Dooj festival will be held on Saturday, 6 November. The festival represents a brother’s oath to protect his sister, while a sister prays to God and receives her blessings for her brother’s well-being.
On the Shukla Dwitiya of Kartik month, it’s said that sisters invite their brothers to a sumptuous meal and worship the Lord on her brother’s forehead and perform Kumkum Tilak brings her brother great bliss. Brother visits his sister’s home takes a sumptuous meal with sweet and gets Tilak done. Sister applies tilak on her brother’s foreheads, perform aarti, chanting Matras, give presents to their brothers and pray for their brother’s long life and prosperity by keeping fast on this day.

Significance of Bhai Dooj
The festival of Bhai Dooj strengthens the bond & affection between brother and sister. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna went to visit his sister Subhadra after defeating the demon Narakasura, then she welcomed his brother Lord Krishna with garlands of flowers, applying Tilak on his forehead and performing Aarti. Since then, the festival of Bhai Dooj is celebrated every year on this day. This day is celebrated in the same way as the Raksha Bandhan festival.
Rituals & Traditions Bhaiya Dooj (Puja Vidhi)
To celebrate the festival in the traditional manner, Sisters worship the Ishta Dev, Lord Vishnu, or Ganesha after taking a bath in the morning. In an auspicious time, the sister applies ghee and rice teak to her brother’s forehead and prays for long life, happiness, success, and a rise in fortune. After this, the brother is given vermilion, betel, betel nut, and dry coconut ie. balls, and chant the mantras by pouring water on the palm while tying Kalava in her brother’s hand. Brothers are given sweets and water to enjoy the delicacy after performing Aarti by the sister.
