App by google recently hits this milestone in the crucial time coronavirus pandemic where more than 50% population are closed in their homes. Google Messages last year enabled RCS support which could have been a big driver for its growth.
This was first spotted by Android Police who noted that Google Messages doubled their download count just in year. Google Messages app comes pre-installed in select devices like the Pixel phones and Android One phones. Unlike Google’s suite of apps like Maps, Gmail, Drive, and Photos, the Messages app is not bundled with this pre-installed package. People love to use this because of easy navigation and google’s security.
